(Riverton, WY) -The Riverton City Council approved a $59,200 contract with Ballard*King and Associates this week to conduct a feasibility study for a multisport recreational facility in town.
The scope of work for the feasibility study includes a project overview/kick-off, a market analysis, public input, programming, concept layout and site needs, a capital construction cost estimate, a financial and operational analysis, economic impact projections, and a final report and public presentation.
Mayor Tim Hancock said those items should help the city ensure that the recreational facility can be “supported financially long-term.”
“That’s good money spent,” Councilmember Kyle Larson agreed, noting that other recreation centers in the region “are running in the red,” and those that aren’t receive support from local “benefactors.”
“The feasibility study needs to be done to make sure that whatever effort we put forward is sustainable,” Larson said.
That’s especially true “if there’s going to be oversight by the city,” with “taxpayer funds that are going” to support the facility, Hancock noted.
“We need to know (what we’re) getting into,” he said. “This is our way of supporting whatever efforts might be made in the future.”
The contract for the feasibility study will be supported by a $20,000 grant from the USDA and about $40,000 in city funds budgeted for fiscal year 2025, according to a memo from city staff.
