(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton City Council will hold a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 5, in the Council Chambers at Riverton City Hall, 816 N. Federal Blvd.
The agenda for the meeting includes an introduction and oath of office for a new Riverton Police Department dispatcher.
The council will also consider a funding request from the Riverton Medical District, which is asking for $250,000 in local economic development sales tax revenues “to support inflationary costs associated with the construction of its facility,” according to a memo from staff.
The memo says the RMD did not submit its request to Riverton’s EDGE Committee, citing “scheduling and contractual restraints.”
The EDGE Committee recently reviewed and prioritized funding applications associated with its September advertising period, staff said, and those recommendations are scheduled to come before the council for consideration on Nov. 19.
The organizations that submitted economic development funding applications this round include:
- Fremont Home Health, which requested $48,500 for a $200,000 project and is recommended to receive $48,500
- Sister Moon Designs LLC, which requested $239,890 for a $239,890 Flower Farm project and is recommended to receive $64,550
- Ethos Transportation Services, which requested $57,537 for a $95,895 Title 25 Transport and Rural Community Assistance project and is requested to receive $57,537
- Fremont County Association of Governments, which requested $263,799 for a $408,799 FCAG Facilities and Renovation project and is recommended to receive no funding
- Riverton Babe Ruth, which requested $25,000 for a $25,000 Babe Ruth Revitalization project and is recommended to receive $25,000
- Open Range Creations, which requested $39,924 for a $60,005 project moving the business from their rural home and “setting up shop in Riverton” that is recommended to receive $37,100
Combined, the requests total $674,650, and the EDGE Committee recommendations amount to $232,687, leaving about $94,690 in Riverton’s economic development sales tax fund.
Parking ordinance
The council will hold a public hearing on Tuesday before considering an ordinance on first reading regarding street parking regulations.
The council had asked the Planning Commission to develop a parking committee to research parking regulations in the city, staff said in a memo.
The Parking Committee has since met and is now proposing several changes to city code, the memo states.
“These changes are a start to the process of developing code to have better control of parking situations on public streets,” staff said. “They also provide necessary definitions that will make it easier as the city moves forward with new adaptations of code.”
The ordinance amends existing definitions of “trailer” and “recreational vehicle,” for example, and “introduces several new definitions,” the memo states.
“Specifically it adds seasonal closures in its definitions (in order) to make city streets safer and provide more room for snow plows on streets that are prioritized in the Snow and Ice Control Plan to receive service,” staff said.
The ordinance also increases the maximum length of vehicles allowed to park on city streets “to accommodate the current length of long bed, crew cab trucks,” the memo states.
Other items on Tuesday’s agenda include:
- a bid award for the purchase of three 2020 Chevrolet Tahoe SUVs for the RPD
- a resolution for a terminal parking lot rehabilitation grant application
- a resolution for a self-serve fuel grant application
- a Brownfields Program community wide assessment grant application
- a first quarter fiscal health report for fiscal year 2025
The meeting will be preceded by a 6:45 p.m. Finance Committee meeting in the same location.
Both meetings are open to the public for in-person attendance and will be streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel, where past meeting recordings are stored.
