(Riverton, WY) – The Riverton City Council will hold a regular meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday, April 15, in the Council Chambers at Riverton City Hall, 816 N. Federal Blvd.
The agenda includes a proclamation for National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and a legislative session report.
A public hearing will be held before the council considers a fireworks permit application for Riverton Little League for June 26.
The council will also hear presentations from Pinnacle Day Center and The Spotted Buffalo, two recipients of optional half-percent sales tax revenues for economic development.
Motorized scooters
Another public hearing will be held Tuesday before the council considers an ordinance on first-reading regarding motorized scooters.
City staff said there has been “an increased use of electric scooters on Riverton’s streets” over the past year, and “the safety of riders and the motoring public has become a concern as these devices appear on busy main roadways where users expect regulated use.”
“Some citizens have seen operators of electric scooters stopping, turning abruptly, and causing an immediate hazard to regular vehicular traffic,” staff said in a memo to the council. “In response to this situation, we have created a proposed ordinance (that) guarantees that responsible electric scooter operators can safely use their scooters on designated roadways without interfering with motor vehicle traffic.”
The proposed ordinance adds motorized scooters to the list of transportation devices that are already prohibited in “a defined geographic area of the city,” staff said.
It also expands the restricted area to include North and South Federal Boulevard as well as Main Street downtown.
Other items on the agenda for Tuesday include:
- police department vehicle purchases
- Smith Road Project bid award
- loan amendments
- quarterly fiscal health report
An executive session will be held if needed before adjournment.
Tuesday’s meeting will be preceded by a 6:45 p.m. Finance Committee meeting in the same location.
Both meetings are open to the public for in-person attendance and will be streamed live on the city’s YouTube channel, where past meeting recordings are stored.
