The Riverton City Council announced Friday that Ward 1 councilman Sean Peterson has submitted his resignation.
Peterson’s resignation is effective February 12th, 2019. His last meeting will be on that date, next Tuesday.
Peterson has been a Riverton resident for nearly 40 years and is a Riverton High School graduate. He is also a veteran of the United States Army. In 2017, he began to serve the community as a city council member. He is also a Riverton Little League volunteer, football referee, and a scoutmaster.
In a written statement Peterson said,
It has been an honor and privilege to serve the citizens of our great community. I wish the Council and citizens of Riverton all the best in their efforts to improve our community.”
Mayor Rich Gard is expected to formally announce the resignation and vacancy at the Tuesday, February 12th meeting beginning at 7:00 p.m. inside Riverton City Hall.
The City of Riverton plans to solicit written applications beginning Wednesday for the position. An interview process is expected to take place Tuesday, March 5th with candidates. After the interviews, the council will go into an executive session to deliberate. At that point, the council can appoint the applicant who will replace the vacant seat, or they can wait until the March 19th meeting if necessary.
The selected applicant will be appointed to a term that will expire in January 2021.
