(Riverton, WY) – Riverton city officials bid a fond farewell to Building Permit Technician Kristi Petersen this week ahead of her retirement later this month.
The long-time municipal employee began working for the City of Riverton in 2000 – meaning she has served the city for more than a quarter of a century, Community Development Director Gary Michaud said when he presented Petersen’s retirement recognition to the Riverton City Council this week.
“That’s a long time to be a dedicated public servant to the city of Riverton,” Michaud said, complimenting Petersen for her effective management of the building permit process and the community development department. “She does it very well – she works with the public, she works with the contractors, she works with private property owners and our staff, and she’s very efficient at it. She has excellent customer service, and she’s extremely proficient at her job.”
Mayor Tim Hancock agreed that Petersen has exemplified Riverton’s mission statement – “excellence in service to the Rendezvous City” – in her work.
“For the last 26 years, you’ve done very well at really (giving that mission statement) a face for many people in the community,” Hancock said. “We appreciate your hard work and certainly hope you enjoy retirement just as much as you can.”
City Administrator Kyle Butterfield echoed those comments later in the meeting, expressing his appreciation for Petersen’s “professionalism, her expertise, and her personality,” which were “unique in our City Hall and in our community and definitely valuable.”
“Her figurative fingerprints are throughout the City of Riverton, because there was not a building permit or an inspection that occurred without her help in coordinating that,” Butterfield said, adding on a “personal note” that Petersen was also “kind to me and my family,” going so far as to help coordinate a baby shower for his wife when they had their first child.
“That is just something that speaks to her personality and her character,” Butterfield said. “We will miss her.”
