(Gillette, WY) – The 4A girls third place game came down to the wire Saturday afternoon at Campbell County High School. A 1-1 tie was forced to go to a shootout, in which Riverton Riverton ultimately prevailed over Thunder Basin 4-3, winning the contest by an official 2-1 score.
The Lady Wolverines were the only Fremont County team that escaped the state tournament with a winning record, beating Laramie Thursday 3-2 before falling to Jackson in Friday semi-finals 4-1.
Both Lander teams came up short in their third place games. The boys lost to Torrington 2-1 and the girls dropped a contest against Douglas 2-1. LVHS’ boys and girls both finished 1-2 at state.
Riverton’s boys went 0-2 and were eliminated on Friday.
Cody won the 3A girls championship after losing to Lander in last year’s title game. In 2025, they’d win a defensive contest beating Powell 1-0. The 3A boys came had just one goal as well, Buffalo outlasted Cody 1-0.
4A was a Jackson Broncs sweep, the boys bucked Sheridan in a battle of both #1 seeds, capturing a 2-1 victory. Jackson’s girls would shutout Kelly Walsh 1-0.
