All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
(Riverton, WY) – 54-year-old Riverton man Jack Lackey pled “not guilty” at his arraignment hearing held on March 5 in Lander’s District Court, to the charge of aggravated homicide by vehicle.
Lackey faces the charge due to his reported role in a drunk driving incident that led to the death of his spouse, Elaine Whittenberger, in August of 2024. He was later arrested in December of 2025 after a warrant was issued for his arrest. (Click here to read the full write-up.)
A jury trial has been set for July 20. At this time, a plea agreement has not been filed.
The maximum sentence for an aggravated homicide by vehicle felony charge is 20 years imprisonment.
