(Riverton, WY) – Riverton Mayor Tim Hancock issued a proclamation this week recognizing the impact the Wyoming Weapons Collectors Memorial Weekend Gun Show has had on the local community for more than three decades.
The 36th Annual Wyoming Weapons Collectors Memorial Weekend Gun Show will take place this weekend at the Fremont County Fairgrounds in Riverton – where the event has been held since its inception.
The gun show offers “a family-friendly environment with a diverse array of collectors and vendors, appealing to seasoned hunters, Second Amendment supporters, firearms collectors, and beginners alike,” according to this week’s proclamation.
It also serves as “a vital fundraiser for the Wyoming Weapons Collectors Association, supporting youth education programs focused on the safe handling of firearms and marksmanship,” the proclamation states.
Over the course of the last 36 years, the proclamation says the gun show has become a “significant annual event for the community,” drawing “hundreds of patrons from across Wyoming and beyond – many of whom stay overnight and patronize local businesses, contributing to the economic vitality of the City of Riverton.”
In addition, the proclamation says, the Wyoming Weapons Collectors Association “recently moved their primary office to Fremont County, appointing a longtime resident of Fremont County as their new secretary, further strengthening the local ties of this important organization.”
That longtime resident is Maralyne Middour, who said she took over as Executive Secretary when the former secretary stepped down after more than 30 years in the role.
“We’re making some changes and we’re really moving the dial with getting more tourism coming into Riverton,” she told the Riverton City Council during a meeting this week. “We will be in force this weekend and spending money, keeping the economy flowing well in Riverton this Memorial Day Weekend.”
The Wyoming Weapons Collectors Association has members from “all across the state of Wyoming” and “into all of our bordering states,” Middour said, including people from Kansas City, Missouri, and Las Vegas, Nevada.
“We appreciate the hospitality that we always receive here,” she said. “And of course, we invite everybody to the gun show.”
Middour said service members, first responders, police officers and law enforcement officials who wear their uniforms to the gun show will be “waved in (to) the priority line for free.”
The gun show is 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, May 24, and 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Sunday, May 25, at the Fremont County Fairgrounds, 1010 Fairgrounds Drive in Riverton.
Adult tickets cost $6 for non-members; admission is free for children age 12 and under when accompanied by an adult.
