(Casper, WY) – Riverton Speech and Debate had a successful weekend (January 31st -February 1st) at the Natrona Classic Speech and Debate Meet, with both the middle and high school teams taking 1st place in their divisions.
The middle school team had finalists in three of the four events offered at the middle school tournament: Interp, Debate, and Impromptu. In Interp, William Pierson and Brayton Strickland took first place with their duo followed by Sadie Goldsberry in 2nd place with her solo act. Peyton Marsh and Savannah Kirk, another dynamic duo, took second place as partners in Debate while Logan Watson took 4th place and Peyton Marsh earned honorable mention in Impromptu.
The high school team had many individuals break into semifinals, including Austyn Chitwood in POI and both Adri Potter and Royce Hancock in Super Congress. In finals, Riverton competitors swept both Dramatic Interpretation and World Schools Debate. Austyn Chitwood, Aquinnah Wiblemo, and Adri Potter took 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively in Dramatic Interpretation while the team of Ayana Mejorado, Jenny Nguyen, Kapri Miller, and Kiera House took 1st in World Schools followed closely by their teammates Samuel Pierson, James Pierson, Terak Brown, and Emerie Coughanour on the second place team. Other notable placings included Austyn Chitwood and Aquinnah Wiblemo taking 2nd and 3rd respectively in Humorous Interpretation, Aquinnah Wiblemo and Hollis Nielsen taking 5th place in Duo Interpretation, and the team of Ayana Mejorado and Samuel Pierson taking 3rd place in CX Debate.
The high school team travels to Jackson next weekend for the 2025 Teton Invitational.
