(Riverton, WY) – For the second consecutive year, many Fremont County Vietnam Veterans will be acknowledged by Riverton Middle School students.
8th graders in Social Studies instructor Michelle Anderson’s “FLEX class” had the opportunity to pick a Veteran and interview them about their experiences serving the United States. The students turn those interviews into written reports.
Their final products are then posted along an ‘Honor Walk’ through the school. The walk is on display for not only RMS students, but anyone who would like to see it this Thursday and Friday.
Thursday, April 30th

Friday, May 1st
- 9:00 am. – 11:00 a.m.
- 1:00 p.m. – 3:00 p.m.

**The exhibit closes between 11:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m. each day while RMS staff and students go to lunch**
Mrs. Anderson had the idea for the project last year during their regular Social Studies unit on the Vietnam conflict. “I think for a long time Vietnam Veterans have not gotten the recognition they deserved.” She added, “I felt like it’s important to document their stories and experiences with the youth to understand and appreciate what it was like.”
While a handful of students chose to write about relatives who reside out-of-state, the vast majority of pieces are for Fremont County locals.
Mrs. Anderson emphasized that those hoping to attend the Honor Walk do not need to have any connection to the specific Veterans honored, RMS students or even the community itself. “Everyone is welcome to attend and read about these individuals that served our country.”
There will be a spot near the end of the walk where visitors will be encouraged to write a note to, or about, a Veteran in their life if they’d like to participate.
