The Riverton Raiders rolled to a 4-0 weekend, winning the S2M Construction Tournament in Laramie. They beat Wheatland 9-3 in the opener, then Douglas 8-0. On Saturday, they beat the Cheyenne Post 6 Hawks 7-1, then finished the tournament with a 12-5 win over the Casper Wildcatters.
Friday, the Raiders broke open a close game with Wheatland. Riverton trailed 3-2 when they erupted for seven runs in the fifth inning.
Riverton sent six batters to first on walks. Addison Trujillo singled home a run. Brayden Martin, Carson Trujillo, Jon Cox, and Jameson Spradlin each drew bases-loaded walks to score. An error added another run. Riverton sent 12 batters to the plate.
Beau Anderson started on the mound, allowing three runs on four hits over four innings while striking out seven. Spradlin earned the win in relief with a scoreless fifth inning.
In the late game Friday, Paxton Yeates threw six shutout innings and drove in two runs to lead the Raiders over Douglas 8-0,
Riverton broke the game open in the second inning. Yeates grounded out to score two runs before Jon Cox followed with an RBI single, giving the Raiders an early 3–0 lead.
Yeates was dominant on the mound, allowing just three hits over six scoreless innings while striking out five and walking two.
The Raiders continued to add to their lead behind a balanced offensive attack. Brayden Baker led Riverton at the plate, going 2-for-4. Yeates, Cox, Colter Heikkila, Baker, Addison Trujillo, and Basyn Anderson each drove in a run.
Riverton committed no errors. Beau Anderson led the defensive effort with five outs.
Saturday had the Raiders lining up with the Cheyenne Post 6 Hawks.
Riverton rolled the Hawks 7-1 behind a dominating performance by Brayden Baker on the mound. Baker struck out 11 Cheyenne batters.
The Raiders took an early lead after Beau Anderson hit a sacrifice fly to drive in a run. Baker tripled to center, moving the score to 2-0.
Leading 2–1 in the fifth, the Raiders broke the game open with four runs. Baker drove in a run with a single, Addison Trujillo followed with another single, and Paxton Yeates delivered the big blow with a two-run triple to put the game out of reach.
Baker and Yeates each collected two hits and drove in two runs to pace the Riverton offense.
In the final game of the tournament, the Raiders broke open an early 3-3 tie to beat the Casper Baseball Club post 2 Wildcatters 12-5.
The Raiders took the lead good in the second and never looked back after Heikkila drove in a run on a sacrifice fly.
Yeates hit another sacrifice RBI. Cox singled in another run, and Carson Trujillo walked in a run with the bases loaded for a 7-3 lead.
Riverton pulled away in the fourth inning with a two-run single by Years, an RBI double by Martin, and a Basyn Anderson single that scored two runs.
Trujillo allowed five runs on just six hits over six innings. Spradlin came on in relief in the seventh.
Riverton heads to the Knight Invite Wood Bat Tournament in Green River, beginning with a Thursday game against the Utah Yaks at 6 p.m. Friday, the team plays the Pocatello, Idaho Razorbacks at 3:30 p.m., then faces the Pocatello Rebels in an early 8 a.m. game on Saturday.
Immediately after the game with the Rebels, they play host to Green River at 10:30.
The first four games determine tournament seeding for Sunday.
