Riverton School Board to consider opposition letter for K-12 uncertified personnel bill during Tuesday meeting

(Riverton, WY) – The Fremont County School District 25 Board of Trustees will hold a regular meeting at 6 PM on Tuesday, Jan. 28, in the Board Chambers at 121 North Fifth Street West. 

The agenda includes a round table discussion with Tawn Gopp regarding the Riverton High School Indoor Track Team.

The board will also speak with Jon Cox via Zoom about the Tonkin Memorial Project, hear from Aspen Elementary Principal Sheryl Esposito, and receive an update from the AI Team.

Under action items, the board will consider approving an out-of-state travel request for the RHS Indoor Track Team to travel to Pocatello, Idaho, in February for the Simplot Games, and they will consider accepting the audit report for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.

The board will also consider an administrative recommendation to delegate Board Clerk Lori Morrow to write a letter addressed to local legislators opposing Wyoming House Bill 100 – K-12 Uncertified Personnel.

Other action items on the agenda include:

• consider adopting policies regarding travel and expense reimbursement, student admissions, bloodborne pathogen exposure control, data privacy and security, and user data retention
• consider abrogating a policy on student responsible use guidelines for technology on first reading
• consider accepting the State Mental Health Grant for $142,725
• consider accepting a resignation from RHS Science Teacher Pamela Pince effective at the end of the school year
• consider accepting retirement requests from RHS Math Teacher Brant Nyberg, Rendezvous Fifth Grade Teacher Shawn Peck, Rendezvous Third Grade Teacher LeAnn Qualye, Jackson Second Grade Teacher Denise McGowan, Rendezvous Fifth Grade Teacher Andrew Samuelson, RMS Special Education Teacher Brianna Watson, Willow Creek Intervention Teacher Dana McDonald, and Frontier Academy Teacher Ross Ziegler
• consider accepting a retirement request from RHS Assistant Principal Kristy Richmond

The board will also discuss plans for an auditorium tour on Jan. 31; receive notifications regarding habitually truant, willfully absent, and 10-day drop students; and hear about classified staff changes, a thank-you card from RHS Heritage students, and enrollment totals before discussing the Tonkin Monument Project. 

An executive session for the superintendent’s evaluation will be held before adjournment. 

Tuesday’s meeting is open to the public for in-person attendance and will be streamed live on the district’s YouTube channel, where past meeting recordings are stored.
