(Riverton, WY) – Kicking off the holiday season, the Riverton Swim Club hosted The Reindeer Dash, a USA Swimming sanctioned swim meet, December 7th-8th at the Riverton Aquatic Center. Swimmers and their families traveled from Riverton, Lander, Cody, Pinedale, Rawlins, Worland, and Powell to compete against each other, as well as try to get their own individual best times.
Many teams, including Riverton, had some new qualifiers for the state meet in February where swimmers will compete against others from the entire state in their respective age groups. Qualifying times for that meet vary based on age and gender. Those who did not qualify at this meet will have more opportunities throughout the next couple of months to secure themselves a qualifying time for state, including a New Years Meet in Lander and one more home meet in Riverton in February at the Bighorn Basin Conference meet.
The youngest 8 & under swimmers competed in events ranging from 25 yards to 100 yards, culminating with some of the oldest swimmers swimming the 1650, or mile. Other races included 50 yard races and 200 yard races. Swimmers came together to participate in some silly relays on Sunday where they dressed up in holiday gear and used float rings to work together to get their team to the finish first.
The Riverton Swim Club would like to thank Tina Jordan, our Meet Director, Henri DeClercq, our Meet Referee, and Heather Hovander, our Admin Official and Entry Chair, for their hard work and dedication to our team. Without them, it wouldn’t have been possible to have such a successful meet. Many parents, grandparents, and other volunteers from all teams came together to help with the variety of jobs necessary to run a swim meet as well, for which we are also grateful.
At the meet this weekend awards were given to the top 8 finishers in each event based on age and gender. Individual heat finishers received a festive rubber duck for their accomplishment.
