(Riverton, WY) – On June 23, 2021 Riverton lost Brett Watson after a short battle with very aggressive cancer at age 61. While he remains tremendously missed, Brett’s community positivity, commitment to volunteerism and passion for youth sports lives on.
Of many community projects he was involved with, one that Brett was most passionate about was the Riverton Junior Football League (RJFL.) Watson spent nearly three decades volunteering time for the league. Soon after his passing, the RJFL field was renamed, “Brett Watson Field.”
Monday was the four-year anniversary of Brett’s death. The Watson family, including his widow Kay, son Scott, parents Dean and Darlene, brothers Gary, Kevin and Danny were on hand to get the first glimpse of a memorial bench funded by Riverton Recreation District 25. The bench will be permanently on display at Wolverine Field.
Watson’s memorial symbolizes the link between the Riverton community, RJFL and Riverton Wolverine football, three of Brett’s passions.
