(Riverton, WY) – Earlier today, April 30, County 10 shared reports of a structure fire that occurred in Riverton. Riverton Police Department Chief Eric Hurtado has since shared a release with more details, which indicates that the fire resulted in one fatality and multiple injured parties.

The Riverton Police and Fire Departments are on scene of a structure fire that claimed one life. Around 1:30 PM, 1st responders were called to a house fire in the 600 block of N Broadway. Initial reports related to officers was there were several children trapped inside the home.
Some good Samaritans, who initially saw smoke coming from the home were able to locate two small children inside the home and pulled them outside.
Officers who arrived within 1 minute of the call entered the smoke filled home to attempt to locate and rescue other children who reported to still be inside the home. They were faced with thick smoke as they tried to search for the other victims.
Riverton Fire & Rescue arrived and was able to locate one additional victim inside the home.
The three victims were transported to a local hospital. One was pronounced deceased at the hospital and two were flown out of state for advanced care.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation. More information will be released at a later time.
