(Riverton, WY) – A Riverton Police Department (RPD) officer was injured in a traffic collision on Wednesday night, January 7, according to a recent release shared on the RPD Facebook page.
The officer had just completed a prisoner transport to the Fremont County Detention Center in Lander and was driving back to Riverton.
Around 11 PM, the officer’s vehicle was struck by another vehicle as it left the Wind River Casino. The officer was northbound on Highway 789 when the second car apparently crossed the intersection at Red Wolf Place.
The Riverton 911 Emergency Dispatch Center then received an automated “Crash Alert” from the patrol vehicle, and the dispatcher was able to communicate with the injured officer.
Riverton City Fire Rescue and EMS in the area responded to the collision, which left the officer trapped inside the patrol car.
The Riverton officer, who was the sole occupant of the police vehicle, was transported to a local hospital and was released early Thursday morning. The driver of the other vehicle reported being uninjured.
The release did not indicate whether any criminal activity occurred or whether the other driver faces any charges, but the collision is being independently investigated by the Wyoming Highway Patrol.
