(Riverton, WY) – Riverton Police Department Chief Eric Hurtado has shared details on a standoff that occurred in the area of North Federal in Riverton, which started around 1 AM on July 15.
“This morning shortly after 1:00 AM, Riverton officers responded to the area of N Federal Blvd near Sunset for a report of a male walking in the middle of the road,” Chief Hurtado told County 10.
“When contacted by officers the male produced a knife. The 46-year-old male had told officers that he wanted to die by suicide-by-cop. The roadway was closed off as a police crisis negotiator was called.”
The standoff lasted approximately 4 hours, and culminated in the male subject being disarmed and taken into protective custody.
RPD was assisted by the Riverton Fire Department, FCSO, and Wyoming Highway Patrol.
