(Riverton, WY) – The Central Wyoming College men’s golf team finished in third place and the women in second place at their home golf competition at Riverton Country Club, showcasing a strong performance on their home course. The men’s team’s collective effort resulted in a total gross score of 614, putting them just one stroke behind second-place Lamar Community College. The team’s performance was bolstered by an impressive second-round score of 297, a significant improvement from their first-round score of 317. While the women’s team finished with a total score of 692 (+116), with their better round being the second (334).
Individual Player Highlights
Central Wyoming College had standout performances from Tyler Ewell, Cheyenne Ward and Isabell Salas. Ewell finished second overall in the individual competition with a total gross score of 144 (E), and carded an impressive 70 on the second day of the tournament. Salas and Ward both tied for 3rd with a score of 166 (+22).
Other notable performances for CWC included:
- Addyson Levanger, who finished in 8th place with a score of 179 (+35).
- Tegan Halloran, finished 9th with a final score of 187 (+43)
- Matthew Wakkuri, who finished 13th with a score of 155 (+11).
- Houston Dunn and Brodie Dale, who tied for 14th place with a total score of 156 (+12).
- Hunter Kihn, tied for 19th with a total score of 158 (+14).
Team and Tournament Summary
Eastern Wyoming College Men’s and Women’s took home first place with a total gross score of 588 (+12) and 651 (+75), respectively. Central Wyoming College’s third and second place finish and strong individual showings demonstrate the team’s ability to compete at a high level. Women’s Soccer
The Central Wyoming College Rustlers women’s soccer team marked a successful journey through their regular season conference games with dominant performances against the Trinidad Trojans and Otero College Rattlers in games held on September 12 and 13, 2025, respectively.
In the first of the two back-to-back away games, the Rustlers faced off against the Trinidad Trojans at Trinidad, CO. The Rustlers established a commanding 3-0 lead by halftime and continued their dominance in the second half to finish the game with an 8-0 shutout. Reese Titland, Lacey Gunnels, Angilee Woleslagle (who scored twice), Jersee Clapier, Katelynn Kartchner, Bailey Brown, and Kenna Merritt all found the net, demonstrating the team’s offensive prowess.
The following day, the Rustlers continued their campaign in La Junta, CO, against the Otero College Rattlers. The match was tightly contested, but the Rustlers managed to maintain a lead with a goal scored by Katelynn Kartchner, which stood as the game-winning strike, accumulating a final score of 1-0. The defensive efforts were equally crucial, with Alaya Malone saving critical attempts in the Trinidad match and Madilyn Shillig guarding the posts against Otero.
Throughout both games, key assists came from players including Isabella Lakey, Natasha Stenton, Bailey Brown (who provided two assists), Jenna Dewey (also with two assists), and Claire Giles, contributing significantly to the team’s offensive setups. Coach Ben Nelson praised the team’s recovery and enhanced performance in the second half of each game, while Jillian Nelson, wearing the captain’s band, highlighted her pride in the squad’s improvements and collective effort. With these wins, the Rustlers improved their season record to 2-3-1.
Volleyball
The Central Wyoming College Rustlers shone in their recent Central Wyoming College Volleyball Invitational held September 11-13 in Riverton, WY. The Rustlers demonstrated their dominance with impressive wins against both the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans and the McCook Community College Indians, while enduring a narrow defeat to the North Platte Community College Knights.
The Rustlers kicked off the tournament with a resounding 3-0 victory over the Spartans, showcasing effective attacks and resilient defense. Nora Rasmussen led the team with an outstanding 22 kills, supported by stellar contributions from other players including Presley Ryan and Lindsey Stewart. Set scores were 25-7, 25-14, and 25-6. Nora Rasmussen and Presley Ryan also excelled in service, delivering critical aces that kept the Spartans at bay.
In a tightly contested series against the Knights, the Rustlers faced their only setback of the tournament, falling 3-2. Despite the loss, the team displayed commendable performance with significant efforts from Lindsey Stewart, who not only secured 11 kills but also recorded multiple blocks. The sets were keenly contested with scores of 26-24, 26-24, and 25-22.
Concluding the tournament on a high note, the Rustlers overpowered the Indians with a clean 3-0 sweep. Key contributions came from numerous players, including Presley Ryan, who delivered 10 kills and defensive digs, helping to clinch the match with set scores of 25-23, 28-26, and 25-17.
Central Wyoming College Rustlers closed the tournament with collective outstanding performances from several players such as Lindsey Stewart, Rachel Workman, and Laina Whitney in blocks and digs, highlighting their cohesive teamwork and strategic prowess. The Rustlers’ consistent and forceful play throughout the tournament indicated a promising season ahead.
Livestock Judging
The CWC Livestock Judging team traveled to Casper, WY to compete at the Casper College livestock contest on September 13. This is the only contest the team will get to travel in-state to.
The team has two brand new team members, Owen Speak and Shawna Friday. Head Coach Amanda Winchester is very excited to teach judging skills to each of these two. Hallie Wilson is coming back as a sophomore this year and Heidi Shade is also a freshman this year, but didn’t travel with the team to Casper.
Men’s Soccer
The Central Wyoming College Rustlers Men’s Soccer team faced Trinidad State College and Otero College in two crucial regular season conference games. The matches, which took place in Trinidad and La Junta, Colorado, on September 12 & 13 (respectively), showcased a mix of strategic plays and resilience from the Rustlers under sunny skies.
In the first game against Trinidad State, the Rustlers displayed a solid defensive performance, maintaining a 0-0 score at halftime. The breakthrough came from Issam Taiar, who put the Rustlers ahead, and Evan Cubby, who not only provided an assist but also scored the decisive game-winning goal, securing a 2-1 victory over Trinidad State. Defensively, goalie Justin Varus kept the Rustlers in the game with crucial saves.
The following match against Otero College presented a tougher challenge. After trailing early in the game, the Rustlers managed to equalize and even took the lead temporarily thanks to goals from Drake Terra and Frederik Lindhoej, assisted by Charles Jones and Louis Loizou. However, Otero College’s Koji Obana scored the game-winning goal, resulting in a 4-2 loss for Central Wyoming College. Despite the defeat, the Rustlers’ performance was noteworthy for its offensive efforts and teamwork.
Looking ahead, the Rustlers are set to face Casper College on the Rustler’s home turf on September 19. As they prepare, the team aims to address areas of improvement and capitalize on their strengths to improve their current record of 2 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw.
