Salazar sworn in as Senate Vice President for 68th Wyoming Legislature

(Cheyenne, WY) – Wyoming Sen. Tim Salazar, R-Riverton, was sworn in Tuesday as the Vice President of the Wyoming Senate for the 68th Wyoming Legislature, which convened at noon.

He was formally nominated by Wyoming Sen. Troy McKeown, R-Gillette, who said Salazar is “somebody you can trust (who) keeps his word.”

“He spent four years in the House, four years in the Senate, (and) he’s also one of my fellow brothers in arms,” McKeown said when he made the nomination. 

Wyoming Sen. Mike Gierau, D-Jackson, seconded the nomination and moved that Salazar’s election be made unanimous, dispensing with the roll call.

After taking the oath of office, Salazar said, “On this day I think of my wife, my son, and my savior. Thank you.”

Earlier, Salazar had made the motion to nominate Wyoming Sen. Bo Biteman, R-Ranchester, as Senate President.

“I entered the Legislature with Sen. Biteman in 2017,” Salazar said when he made the nomination. “He’s been a good friend. … He is ethical. He is brave. And when he gives his word, it’s gold. I’m proud to nominate my friend.”

Gierau seconded that nomination as well and moved that it be made unanimous, dispensing with the roll call.

“We’re going to have a good two years together,” Biteman said after taking his seat in front of the Senate. “Let’s get to work.”
