(Lander, WY) – A Friday morning flyover of the Sand Creek Fire west of Lander has indicated it is in the same footprint as yesterday, according to the Shoshone National Forest Public Affairs Officer Kristie Salzmann.
She noted additional information will be released as soon as possible after their crews set up on the scene.
The fire was reported at around 3:00 pm yesterday, September 9th, according to the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office report. As of 8:30 pm last night, it was an estimated 100-acres in a remote area of the Wind River Range in the Sand Creek Drainage.
Due to the location of the fire, aerial resources were the first to respond with a Type 1 (large) helicopter, Type 3 (small) helicopter, and air attack platform being first on the scene. Ground resources are also being utilized.
The National Weather Service in Riverton has issued a Red Flag Warning for most of Fremont County and includes the area where the fire is burning. Low humidity, gusty winds and high temps are creating critical fire weather.
