Several dozen political signs across Lander have reportedly gone missing according to both mayoral candidates and a Lander City Councilman.
A Lander Police Department officer confirmed to County 10 that they had received multiple reports of people who are “very upset” their yard signs have gone missing. He also noted that most of the signs appeared to be for specifically the mayor race.
Lander City Councilman Cade Maestas announced publicly on his Facebook page, that a sign showing support for one mayoral candidate had been stolen. He later commented, “I know neither candidate would ever condone or encourage this behavior. Not sure if it’s the work of some misguided supporters or vandals, but in the end it amounts to the same thing.”
Mayoral candidate Any Gramlich announced Monday that he believes over 40 of his signs have been stolen:
Mayoral candidate Monte Richardson commented on Councilman Maestas’ Facebook post by saying,
It’s very unfortunate that this is happening in Lander. I have had to replace over 60 signs since the Primary, several now have cameras on them.”
Both Gramlich and Richardson will meet for a mayoral candidate forum Thursday, September 27th at the Lander United Methodist Church at 6:00 p.m.
Stealing political signs on another person’s property is illegal, a misdemeanor, according to state law.
