(Shoshoni, WY) – It was a big weekend for the Shoshoni Wranglers rolling to a 3-0 finish in their own Wrangler Classic. The Wranglers opened play on Thursday with a 60-40 win over Saratoga, then handled Meeteetse 57-40 before rolling over Riverside 60-25. The sweep leaves the Wranglers at 6-1 entering the Christmas break.
“I’m happy with where we are right now. It’s been a Merry Christmas to start the year for sure,” Shoshoni head coach Taylor Dick said. “We had a great win against a scrappy Saratoga team.”
Against the Panthers Shoshoni started slow but erupted in the final minutes of the opening period to take a 19-10 lead.
Even play in the middle periods didn’t change much but in the fourth quarter the Wranglers erupted again, forcing turnovers and converting them into points. They outscored Saratoga 17-6 in the final period.
Quinton Clark and Andrew Garcia paced Shoshoni with 13 and 10 points respectively.
Meeteetse played well early, but Shoshoni tallied a 19-11 advantage in the second period to take a 32-21 lead at the half.
They held on from there.
“We really had to work to beat Meeteetse. We weren’t super crisp but it was good for us to struggle,” Dick said.
Garcia had the hot hand with 17 points including a pair of 3-point shots.
The final game against Riverside late Saturday evening was a steady runaway by the Wranglers as they held the Rebels to single digit scoring in all four periods.
Cade Kisling had a breakout game for Shoshoni, leading the team with 15 points and a pair of 3-pointers, Garcia added 10.
“We will enjoy our time with families and rest for a week. Then it’s time to get back to work. We go to
Wright right after Christmas and play four really good teams,” Dick said. “If we want to go back to state, that’s where our season really starts. But I’m super happy with how we are playing right now and how much of team players we are being right now.”
