(Shoshoni, WY) – The Shoshoni High School graduating class, 22 strong, had their ceremony scheduled for Harold Bailey Field, but afternoon thunderstorms moved the event indoors to Wrangler Gymnasium.
Fremont County School District 24 Board of Trustees Chairman Gavin Woody welcomed the crowd, and the ceremony was opened by senior Warren Fletcher. Valedictorian Alex Brown spoke, followed by speaker Jeff Ballou.
Ballou opened with this gem, “Mr. Robinson (principal Ted Robinson) asked me if I could deliver a 35-minute speech. I said sure, I could talk for 35 minutes, he said no, three to five minutes.”
Ballou’s message was clear: “Stay in touch.”
After Ballou spoke, salutatorian Braxton Mills addressed the audience.
Mills and Brown both graduated last Friday at Central Wyoming College’s Robert H. Peck Theater with associate degrees from CWC.
Mills will attend the University of Montana, pursuing a science degree (likely geology), while Brown has been accepted at prestigious Lehigh University in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania, where he will study engineering.
Robinson presented the graduates with their diplomas as their high school memories, future plans, and scholarships were announced.
Mortarboards flew toward the gymnasium ceiling, and the graduates walked out to a reception in Shoshoni’s auxiliary gym.
