(Shoshoni, WY) – The Shoshoni Town Council will allow the use of fireworks from 6 p.m. to midnight on July 4, according to a Monday announcement from Shoshoni Police Department Chief Chris Konija.
In order to address the fire danger present in the area, Konija said Shoshoni staff “will mow surrounding fields in town and clear alleys of tumbleweeds to reduce the risk, as well as have our water truck on standby” during the time period when fireworks are allowed.

Konija noted that town officials decided to allow fireworks on July 4 in part because this year marks the 250th anniversary of the nation’s founding.
Plus, he said, “experience in prior years” shows that, when fireworks are “banned … people unfortunately light them off anyway.”
As a result, he said town officials determined that “taking measures to mitigate risk and work on containment” would be “better than simply trying to control a situation that has shown to be extremely challenging to manage entirely and enforce throughout the day.”
