Shoshoni Mayor Joel Highsmith administered the oath of office for new School Resource Officer Jeff Gillett during a regular Shoshoni Town Council meeting Tuesday.
Gillett has been a law enforcement officer for 14 years, and he previously worked for the Riverton Police Department and the Fremont County Sheriff’s Office, Shoshoni Police Department Chief Chris Konija said.
“(He was) really highly recommended,” Konija told the council on Tuesday. “(We’re) really excited to have him aboard.”
Gillett will start his SRO training next week, Konija noted – with guidance from former SRO Cody Myers.
“We have a lot of … luck in that (Cody) has agreed to help out and show him the ropes and try and help him navigate the school,” Konija said. “(We’re) very excited for that.”
Gillett will also spend some time on regular patrol, Konija said, asking the council and other residents to “make him welcome” in Shoshoni if they see him on the street.
