Shoshoni 5th and 6th graders recently had the chance to create and show off projects with a “STEM” theme.
STEM is an acronym for science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. The STEM phrase became popular in the early 2010’s, and was encouraged throughout schools at every level for help students prepare for jobs of the future.
Shoshoni teacher Ted Robinson created the idea for students to participate.
Robinson had previously competed in a program called RAMPED, from the University of Wyoming. RAMPED, or Robotics, Applied Mathematics, Physics, and Engineering Design allowed instructors an opportunity to work with experts from the University of Wyoming to obtain ideas and new abilities to incorporate concepts of computer science, computational thinking, and cybersecurity into classrooms.
