(Riverton, WY)—A new collection of musical and spoken-word entertainment aimed at engaging Wyoming motorists is the focus of the next installment of “Wyoming Chronicle” on Wyoming PBS.
The Wyoming Road Trip Playlist, created annually through the Wyoming Arts Council, features more than two dozen songs by Wyoming artists, along with a handful of podcasts this year. Emy DiGrappa of Jackson judged the podcast entries, while Montana musician Todd Loken selected the songs for the playlist.
“Wyoming Chronicle” Public Affairs Senior Producer and Host, Steve Peck, interviews DiGrappa for the show that premieres at 7:30 p.m., Friday, Sept. 13, on the main WY PBS channel.
DiGrappa, who hosts two podcasts of her own through the Wyoming Humanities Council—“Winds of Change” and “What’s Your Why?”—says all selections appearing on the playlist are the work of Wyoming-based performers. She did not submit her own work for consideration.
The 2024 playlist is the first to include podcasts. DiGrappa says they provide variety for listeners traveling Wyoming roadways.
“You think about the quality, and you think about the story, and think about what people want to hear, what’s going to keep them engaged,” she says.
The songs range from traditional country western and country rock to ballads and folk music. The story-orientated podcasts run longer than the songs, but no more than about 15 minutes. A half-dozen excerpts from both the musical and spoken-word portions of the playlist are included in the “Wyoming Chronicle” episode.
DiGrappa also discusses other elements of the Wyoming Humanities Council, including funding and statewide programming.
In addition to Friday’s premiere, this episode of “Wyoming Chronicle” will repeat at 1:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. Saturday and at noon on Sunday. Once the new episode of “Wyoming Chronicle” has premiered on television, it can be seen anytime on the Wyoming PBS website and the station’s YouTube channel.
