(Fremont County, WY) – With money tight these days, many families face difficulty stretching their budgets to include feminine hygiene. Soroptimist International of Fremont County decided they could help.
Boxes were placed in the schools and other public locations, asking for donations of feminine hygiene products, and Fremont County citizens came through again, along with member donations. By October, SI Fremont County had almost enough product to reach their goal when a generous donation from VFW Auxiliary Post 3628 pushed them over the top.
Soroptimist members, along with friends and family, met one cold November evening to stuff information pamphlets and an assortment of hygiene products into colorful, zippered bags. The contents even included a couple pieces of chocolate, also determined to be a necessity. In all, the effort resulted in 180 period bags which were divided up into totes and delivered to all 9 of Fremont County’s middle schools.

Yes, it’s a real thing, Period Poverty, and it impacts an estimated 500,000 women and girls around the world annually (Source UNICEF & WHO). When women don’t have access to hygiene supplies, or can’t afford them, girls may miss school and fall behind in their education, while women may miss work, affecting their income and economic opportunities.
Founded in 1921, Soroptimist International is a global volunteer organization that works to ensure that women and girls have the resources and opportunities to reach their full potential and live their dreams. SI Riverton was chartered in 1974 and works locally on projects designed to meet that mission. The name was changed in 2023 to Soroptimist International of Fremont County to reflect the County-wide scope of the various programs.
