The Star Valley boys put on a running clinic in Cheyenne Saturday, sweeping the top three positions in the Class 4-A State Cross Country championships behind a blistering 15:46.60 by champion Jase Burton. The Braves tallied 42 points, with Kelly Walsh a distant second at 109.
Riverton’s Davian Spoonhunter earned all-state honors with an eighth-place finish. Spoonhunter had the most contested position in the top 10 among 4-A boys.
Racing down the final 150 yards of the course into the chute, Spoonhunter battled Garrett Peterson of Kelly Walsh and Sheridan’s Shaun Gonda. Peterson beat Spoonhunter by half-a-stride and Gonda trailed the Riverton senior by the same distance.
As a team the Wolverines finished ninth in the 14-team field.
The Lander Tigers finished fourth in Class 3-A with senior Logan Milek just out of the top 10 in 11th place.
