Senator Michael Von Flatern would like to see a toll imposed for Interstate 80 in Wyoming.
The Gillette Republican told the Gillette News Record last week that he believes the toll will help prevent some of the deadly accidents on what’s one of the most commonly closed stretches of interstate in the nation.
Von Flatern told the Gillette News Record that I-80’s closures often prevented lawmakers from traveling home on weekends. He added that he’d like to see a third lane on each side of the interstate that could be used by cars and passenger vehicles only.
He said he’d propose that tolls charged to Wyoming drivers would be paid through the state’s federal mineral royalties.
An attempt to impose a toll on I-80 failed in 2009.
