Thanks to the quick work of the Dubois Volunteer Fire Department, no structures were affected in a grass fire near the 7000 block of U.S. Highway 26, southeast of Crowheart.
The fire was reported at 1:31 p.m. Wednesday afternoon.
Roughly 15-acres of grass and sagebrush were burned. Multiple structures were threatened, but crews worked to prevent them from catching fire.
The fire is being investigated currently by the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
The Dubois Volunteer Fire Department issued the following statement about the blaze:
Dubois Fire Department responded to a report of a grass fire at 7372 U.S. Hwy 26. Upon arrival fire units found a wind driven fire in about 10 acres of grass and sage with multiple structure threatened. Three brush trucks and two water tenders from Dubois Fire department and several mutual aid units from Fremont County Fire District and the BIA responded. The fire was controlled at 15:30 and contained to 15 acres. No structures were lost or damaged. The fire is under investigation by the BIA, but appears to have started by an unattended burning brush pile. There was one Minor injury to a firefighter and was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
