All suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
(Lander, WY)—On Friday, March 14, the Lander Police Department issued a press release regarding an incident that same afternoon involving an “alleged armed suspect” near the Fremont County courthouse in Lander.
The release informed that officers responded to a report of “a disturbance involving a firearm in the vicinity of the Fremont County Courthouse,” where an individual was “alleged to be armed” before they left the scene.
That individual has since been identified as Heidi Freeman (Y.O.B. 1979), who was ultimately charged with one count of felony aggravated assault and battery, according to court documents filed on March 14.
A felony aggravated assault and battery charge holds a maximum sentence of 10 years imprisonment.
The affidavit on file states that on March 14, Freeman and another subject had “concluded mediation at the Fremont County Courthouse.”
As the other subject exited the building and walked toward his vehicle, he observed that Freeman was “already in her vehicle which was parked directly behind his.”
The subject “noticed she had a handgun pointed at her temple,” the affidavit continues. She then stated, “I’ll just do this right here.”
The subject told Freeman “not to do it,” at which point she “turned the handgun and pointed it” in the direction of his face before commenting, “You deserve to die.”
The affidavit concludes by stating that Freeman drove off, “almost striking” the other individual, and then later texted him, “I should have ran your *** over. You don’t deserve the ****ing rubber on my tires you weasel.”
The press release mentioned above also informed that officers later took Freeman, whose name was not made public at that time, into custody in the 300 block of Baldwin Creek Road “through the cooperation of multiple agencies and coordinated efforts” and “without injury to the public, officers, or the suspect.”
Freeman’s initial appearance hearing took place at the Lander Circuit court today, March 17.
