(Midvale, Wyo.) – The 2018 sugar beet harvest began in Fremont County today, four days earlier than last year. Beet growers began pulling the beets over the weekend and this morning the lineup of trucks was long at the Midvale Receiving Station of Wyoming Sugar Company.
Fremont County has some one-dozen growers who have planted about 1,700 acres in sugar beets. Wyoming Sugar, a farmer-owned cooperative, also operates a receiving station north of Riverton and at numerous locations in the Big Horn Basin. Sugar Beets grown here are transloaded to the company’s sugar refinery in Worland.
