(Lander, WY) – The final meet of the regular season, the annual Shane Brock Memorial at Bill Bush Stadium in Lander, played out under perfect conditions. Sun burns and smiles highlighted the efforts of Fremont County teams along with Cody, Rock Springs, Kemmerer, Encampment, and Little Snake River.
The Lander boys won the team titles with the Rock Springs Lady Tigers taking the girls’ top finish. The Lady Tigers made a strong showing in the morning, but by early afternoon they were filtering away from the meet to get ready to the Lander Prom later that evening.
A highlight of the meet came with two of the best hurdlers in Wyoming meeting in the same heat of the 100-meter hurdles. Riverton’s phenomenal junior Addison Alley lined up in lane four, with Lander sophomore Paisley Hollingshead right next to her in lane five.
They epitomize the different styles and physiques you can find in both boys’ and girls’ hurdlers. Alley is all power, strong fast, and with excellent technique for a shorter, power hurdler. Hollingshead is the other extreme at nearly six feet with a long stride that can easily three-step an entire flight of hurdles.
Alley won by three meters, but Hollingshead set a new personal record in breaking the 15-second barrier for a second-place finish.
Lander junior Adelyn Anderson continues an impressive season as the best thrower in Wyoming this season with top marks in both the shot put and discus.
For the boys, it was the Lander sprint duo of the two Brayden’s, Brayden Johnson-Baker and Brayden Baker, who finished one-two in the 100 and one-three in the 200 to pace the Tigers.
Riverton’s Davian Spoonhunter was a double winner in the distance races, with titles in the 800 and 1600-meter runs.
Lander’s Cody West set a season high personal mark in the 300-meter-intermediate hurdles, running 41.13 to win the event.
If there is an event Lander sophomore Brooks Even isn’t competitive in, he hasn’t found it year. Even won the pole vault, placed in the long jump and the 300-meter hurdles, and narrowly missed scoring in the discus with a throw of 116.
It’s regional track beginning this Friday. Lander heads to Powell, Riverton treks to the Utah border in Evanston, and the remaining Fremont County schools travel the short distance to Shoshoni for the combine 1A/2A West Championships.
