Survey says Wyoming did “more sinning” over the last year

(Wyoming) – For the last five years, we’ve been monitoring a list of the most and least sinful states across the United States… because we’re journalists with integrity.

In 2020, Wyoming ranked as the 48th most sinful state, in 2022 we dropped to 49th most sinful and last year we ranked as the actual least sinful state in the country.

The folks at WalletHub have created the study once again in 2025, based off of many metrics. They studied each state’s rate of violent crime, excessive drinking, gambling addiction, prostitution, out-of-shape adults and more.

This year, Wyoming still ranks very low, however we moved up fairly substantially ranking 46th in the most sinful list. States that swooped in as “less-sinful” than us included Utah, Vermont, New Hampshire and Idaho. So now County 10 wants to know… which one of you is responsible!?

Wyoming’s “anger and hatred” score was alarmingly high over the last 12 months. Meanwhile, jealousy, vices and greed all remained pretty low.

Every year that we’ve monitored this list, Nevada has ranked as the most sinful state in the nation. They’re followed by California, Florida, Louisiana and Texas in the top five this year.

Key Stats

• Maine has the lowest violent crime rate, which is 7.3 times lower than in New Mexico, the state with the highest.
   
• Idaho has the fewest thefts (per 1,000 residents), which is 3.6 times fewer than in Washington, the state with the most.
   
• Colorado has the lowest share of obese adults, which is 1.7 times lower than in West Virginia, the state with the highest.
   
• Utah has the lowest share of adult smokers, which is 3.5 times lower than in West Virginia, the state with the highest.
   
• Alaska has the fewest beauty salons (per square root of population), which is 10.3 times fewer than in New York, the state with the most.
