(Lander, WY) – The Lander Police Department is currently investigating a suspicious package that was discovered earlier today in the area of 400 block of Buena Vista by the Popo Agie River, according to a release shared by the City of Lander via the Lander Police Department.

At approximately 0920, officers responded to reports of an unattended package observed by a member of the public. As a precaution, the immediate area was secured, and the Sweetwater County Bomb Squad was called to assess the situation.
Out of an abundance of caution, pedestrian and vehicular traffic was rerouted. The investigation is ongoing, and authorities are working to determine the contents and origin of the package.
“We are treating this matter with the utmost seriousness to ensure public safety,” said Kelly Waugh, Interim Chief of Police with the Lander Police Department. “We ask for the public’s cooperation and patience while we complete our investigation.”
At this time, there is no indication of a broader threat to the community. Updates will be provided as new information becomes available.
