(Lander, WY) – My family has selflessly served our country since my grandpa manned a tail gun on a B-24 bomber, flying 30 dangerous missions over Germany from 1943-1944. My grandfather had to endure four crash landings in England because German bullets and shrapnel shot up his plane. My parents both served, Dad in the Navy and Army National Guard and Mom in the Army and Army Reserves, where she won the Bronze Star Medal for service in Iraq at the height of the insurgency in 2004. I volunteered for submarine duty in the Navy. I’m proud to have served my country, and am especially proud to be a member of the VFW.
In May 2022, Scott Jensen and Taylor Jacobs voted to remove veterans as a protected class from our district’s anti-discrimination policy. Some of my fellow veterans and I showed up to protest this egregious decision. As a student of history and a friend of a few Vietnam veterans, I know how poorly our Vietnam veterans were treated when they returned home from one of the most difficult and intractable conflicts of our nation’s history. After suffering from a profoundly psychologically difficult war, many wound up unemployed and homeless due to blatant discrimination from employers. Mr. Jensen and Ms. Jacobs voted to repeat that stain on our nation’s history.
Mr. Jensen and Ms. Jacobs chose to use veterans as pawns to play the game of politics. Mr. Jensen and Ms. Jacobs can be grateful they have the freedom to be elected officials. We can be grateful that we have the freedom to send them packing in November so they never disgrace veterans again. Please vote for Mara Gans, Buck Tilton, and Daniel McLane for FCSD#1 School Board. We can’t afford another 4 years of Scott and Taylor’s shameful tactics.
