I am writing to express my deep concern about the excessive speed of traffic through our town site, a problem that has persisted for many years and continues to worsen. The recent tragic loss of my 11-year-old daughter’s beloved 4-year-old cat, Mittens, struck and killed on the edge of the road, underscores the urgent need for action. This incident is not isolated but part of a growing danger in our community.
Many children, including my own, play outside constantly, and the high speeds of passing vehicles puts them at serious risk. If drivers do not slow down, I fear it is only a matter of time before a child is hurt or worse. This ongoing issue has been a concern for our town site for far too long, with speeding becoming more reckless each year. I urge all drivers to reduce their speed when passing through our town site to prevent further tragedies. Additionally, I respectfully request that Fremont County consider implementing measures such as clearer speed limit signs or traffic calming devices to ensure the safety of our children and pets.
We would very much appreciate it if whoever did hit Mittens, please reach out to us so my daughter and our family may get closure on this tragedy, or if anyone witnessed her being hit, please reach out to this email: standrews1912@gmail.com. She was hit and killed on the edge of the road right at the top of our driveway between 8:00 pm and 9:00 pm on Saturday, September 13. Thank you to the neighbor who noticed her, soon after being hit, and was thoughtful enough to stop and put Mittens on top of a box, out of the way of any possible traffic.
