(Lander, WY) – I have never seen such a deeply divided social and political climate. Yet when I was photographing the leaves in Sinks, stopped on the road, every person who drove by asked if I needed help. The Lander I know. Care for your neighbor.
I’ve known Mara since she was born. Caring about others exudes from every cell of her body. I love listening to her ponder different solutions for reaching students in her job at CWC. She is an educator at her core. She is upbeat, hard-working, and a master at gathering opinions even when it isn’t obvious she’s doing it. She has a joie d’vivre that is contagious and brings that to every situation she is in. And if you want to know the definition of even-handed, get to know Mara.
The Lander School board is a non-partisan job, not a political job. The candidates need to work hard for student success and to answer the unthinkable questions we need to answer now (like guns in schools). They need to listen. Create solutions that work for everybody. In my opinion there is none more qualified than Mara. She even attended LVHS, coached sports teams, and knows the school inside out.
I would love to see this social/political climate ease, to accept that we all think differently. We don’t need to convince people to think like us. We need leaders who will consider all opinions and put them in the soup. I believe Mara Gans is your gal.
