As Fremont County considers the proposed 3/4-cent tax, I believe it is important to look beyond politics and focus on what this decision is really about: quality of life and the future of our communities.
This is not a political issue, nor is it the same as the past 1/2-cent tax. It is not about any one group or organization. Abundant information is available about the proposed tax and how the funds would be used. Most importantly, it is about coming together as a county and asking ourselves what kind of community we want to live in—and what kind of community we want to leave for the next generation.
Strong communities need quality services, opportunities, recreation, education, healthcare, public safety, and places for families and young people to connect and thrive. These things matter when businesses consider locating here, when families decide where to raise their children, and when our young people decide whether to stay in Fremont County or look elsewhere for a better quality of life.
If we want to keep our youth here, we have to give them reasons to stay. A good job is important, but so is having a community they are proud to call home—a place with activities, services, opportunities, and a strong sense of belonging.
The proposed 3/4-cent tax is an opportunity to invest in Fremont County and in the quality of life we want for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren.
We may not all agree on every detail, but I hope we can agree on one thing: Fremont County is worth investing in.
Let’s put politics aside, come together as neighbors, and work toward making Fremont County the best place it can be.
Our future depends on what we choose to build together today.
