The Fremont Symphony Orchestra is presenting a program called “Cinematic Adventure” on March 14, according to Music Director Rebecca Murdock. The concert will be performed at the Lander Valley High School auditorium at 7 pm, and tickets are available online at www.FremontSymphonyOrchestra.org.
The Lander High School and CWC Choirs are invited back to perform with the FSO by Director Murdock. They will be performing two pieces from Mozart’s “Requiem”: “Dies Irae” (Day of Wrath) and “Lacrimosa” (tearfully) from the movie “Amadeus” and “Dry Your Tears Afrika” from the movie “Amistad”. Murdock has invited choir directors Dr. Susan Volbrecht, and Dr. Jeremy Cochran to direct the two Mozart pieces. The two choirs add approximately 80 people to the stage.
In addition, the orchestra will perform other classic movie scores, including “Go West” –from the movies “Magnificent 7,” “Hang ‘em High,” and “The Good, The Bad and the Ugly.” Also, “A Song of India” by Rimsky-Korsakov was used in the 1949 Adventure film of the same name. “2001 A Space Odyssey” will be represented by “The Beautiful Blue Danube Waltz” by Johann Strauss, and the musicians will perform “Intermezzo” by Mascagni from “Raging Bull” and “Godfather Part III.” The orchestra will also perform “Tahiti Trot”, a piece written by Shostakovich on the theme from “Tea for Two” from the 1950 movie “No, No, Nanette.”
The LVHS Auditorium will become a theater from 1917 with the showing of the silent film “The Adventurer” starring Charlie Chaplin arranged and directed by visiting artist Andrew Greene from Baltimore, MD. The feature is sure to bring lots of laughs to the audience.
The FSO was founded by Murdock and several friends in the 1970s. The symphony includes musicians from throughout Fremont County and brings musicians from around the state and region for the performances. The FSO is operated by a local board of directors as a non-profit. Contributions may be mailed to the Fremont Symphony Orchestra at 811 Cindy Circle in Riverton, WY 82501-3040.
