(Ethete, WY) – A “threatening” phone call made to Fremont County School District #14 Wyoming Indian Schools on April 21 was ultimately deemed not to have been “credible” or pose any “imminent danger,” according to a release sent to County 10 by Superintendent Blakke Bertram.
“Wyoming Indian Schools (Fremont 14 School District) were placed in lockdown today following a threatening phone call,” the release informs. “Out of an abundance of caution, school leadership acted immediately in coordination with our School Resource Officer (SRO) and neighboring law enforcement agencies to secure all campuses while the situation was assessed. The safety of our students and staff is always our top priority. While the threat was taken seriously, there was no information indicating any credible or imminent danger. Law enforcement worked closely with school officials to investigate and ensure that all appropriate safety measures were in place.”
Early reports of the incident from local media derived from scanner traffic stated that law enforcement was “responding to a report of a potential shooting threat at a school in Fremont County,” but did not share a location in that initial post, prompting at least one local school district to issue a message to parents that their students were not in danger. The incident and report also occurred while Riverton High School was practicing a lockdown drill, adding to the confusion.
Bertram said that throughout the situation, school administrators “maintained clear and timely communication with staff, parents, and the broader community through text messaging, our student information systems, and official social media channels.”

Bertram added that Wyoming Indian Schools are “grateful for the swift, professional response of our staff, local law enforcement, and the cooperation of our students and community.”
