(Gillette, WY) – Three of the four Fremont County varsity high school soccer teams will participate in the third place game from the state tournament in Gillette Saturday.
Defending 3A girls champions, Lander fell in the semi-finals to the team they beat in last year’s championship, Cody 2-1. The Lander girls face off against Douglas to conclude their season at 9:00 a.m. Saturday from Campbell County High School. Meanwhile, the 3A girls championship is between Powell and Cody.
The Riverton ladies came up short in the semi’s Friday against Jackson, losing 4-1. RHS will see their year come to a conclusion Saturday at 1:00 p.m. playing Thunder Basin at Campbell County High School. The 4A girls championship will see the wests top seed, Jackson square off against the west’s forth seed, Kelly Walsh.
After a hard-fought comeback attempt, Lander’s boys were heartbroken in a 3-2 loss to Buffalo Friday afternoon. The Tigers play Torrington’s Trailblazers at 11:00 a.m. Saturday at Campbell County High School in the third place contest. 3A boy’s championship game will feature Buffalo Vs. Cody.
After qualifying at regionals, the Riverton boys went 0-2 at state, ending their season Friday afternoon. Riverton lost to Cheyenne Central Thursday 4-0 and were edged by Thunder Basin 3-2 Friday. The 4A boys championship match-up is set between Sheridan and Jackson.
