The Lander Tigers took the crown at the Bobcat Invite last Thursday and Friday in Thermopolis behind a runner-up finish by Craig Hansen who shot 75 and 78 for a 153 score that tied him for second place. Teammate Riley Stout was one stroke behind in fourth place. Hunter Kihn was fifth at 155 and Sequeil Lozer 7th with a 159.
“Overall, it was a strong tournament for our boys’ team, highlighted by a win and Craig Hansen’s impressive 2nd place finish,” Lander head coach Mike Watson said. “We had four boys place in the top 10 and two girls in the top five.
Riverton was paced by an 8th place finish by Kyler Graham at 160, with Beau Anderson (164) Gabe Clark (170), Tristan Ladd (172), Jacob Hull (176) and John Hull (178) bringing balance just outside the top ten to secure the second-place team score for the Wolverines.
Neither Riverton nor Lander had enough golfers to field girls teams, but they both had players in the top 10.
Tylynn McDonald continued an outstanding season with a runner-up finish behind Eliana Hopkin of Cody. McDonald shot 90/91 for a 181, finishing five strokes behind Hopkin. Anika Stanley was sixth for the Lady Wolverines with a score of 192.
McDonald, a junior at Riverton, won the Worland invite last week.
Keigann Watson shot 98/88 for a fourth-place score of 186, with Siara Espinosa just two strokes behind in fifth place with a score of 188.
“The team has faced a variety of course styles this season, and the players’ games are holding up well across the board,” Watson said. “Now, we enter the most crucial stretch of the season, conference and state. The focus and dedication should pay off for the kids if they play one shot and one hole at a time. Take their medicine when in trouble and simply have fun while playing.”
