The Lander Tigers came up a little short in their quest for a state golf championship. The Tigers finished second with a score of 627 behind state champion Wheatland with 595.
Lander was paced by a pair of top 10 finishers in William Oland who was fifth with a score of 149, and Isaiah Webb who shot 155 for seventh place.
“We had a great State Tournament. Day one didn’t go quite the way we wanted, but the boys bounced back in a big way with a 306 on day two,” Lander head golf coach Mike Watson said. “We had a team meeting before the second round with one goal: come out, have fun, compete, and play our game. Every one of our golfers did exactly that. I couldn’t be more proud of how they responded and battled.”
Wheatland also won the girls’ division for a state tournament sweep. The Lady Tigers finished sixth.
“Our girls also gained some valuable experience, with three freshmen girls competing at State. Getting that experience this early in their high school careers will pay off down the road,” Watson said.
Watson had praise for his pair of all-state golfers.
“I was especially excited to see William Oland and Isaiah Webb earn All-State honors by finishing in the Top 10,” he said. “What a great accomplishment.”
