(Lander, WY) – Buck Tilton, a dedicated educator with nearly fifty years of experience, is excited to announce his candidacy for the Fremont County School District Number One (FCSD #1) Board of Trustees. As a long-time resident of Lander and a passionate advocate for education, Tilton is committed to enhancing the quality of education in our community.
“Lander has been my home for nearly 25 years, and my family and I have deep roots here,” said Tilton. “Two of my four children graduated from Lander Valley High School, and I have witnessed firsthand the value our community places on education. With over fifty years in the field of education, I understand how crucial it is to uphold and advance this tradition.”
Tilton’s career in education has been driven by a belief that teaching is about guiding children towards successful futures. He emphasizes that education is the cornerstone of a thriving community and that every individual deserves access to quality education.
“I am running for the school board because I believe that every child deserves to learn in a safe and welcoming environment,” Tilton continued. “Teachers should be fairly compensated and trusted to excel in their roles. Lander’s schools are known for their high standards of teacher training, and we must continue to attract and retain exceptional educators.”
Tilton also highlights the importance of parental involvement in education. He encourages parents and guardians to engage more actively with their children’s education by communicating with teachers, administrators, and the school board, and staying informed about the curriculum.
“Student success is a collaborative effort, and I am eager to contribute to that effort,” Tilton said. “I ask for your support on November 5th to elect me, Buck Tilton, as a trustee for Fremont County School District Number One.”
Buck Tilton, originally from South Carolina, has had a distinguished career that includes co-founding the Wilderness Medicine Institute and serving as a full-time professor in the English Department at Central Wyoming College. His teaching has earned him two Outstanding Faculty awards, the Paul Petzoldt Excellence in Wilderness Education trophy, and the Warren Bowman Award for his contributions to wilderness medicine. With over three dozen books in print, Tilton remains passionate about writing, teaching, the outdoors, and his family.
