(Riverton, WY) – City Administrator Kyle Butterfield surprised Interim Community Development Director Dave Paskett with a special recognition during last week’s Riverton City Council meeting.
Paskett, who previously spent 30 years working for the City of Riverton, agreed to take on the role of Community Development Director after Michael Miller’s departure last year, and Butterfield said it was a “huge relief” to be able to “lean on someone who has experience and knowledge and cares about the city” during that transition period.
“Dave Paskett is someone that I have tremendous respect for,” Butterfield said. “I’ve enjoyed working alongside (him). He’s had the opportunity to work with people and has had to hold some people accountable to the standards we expect in the City of Riverton. And he’s done so in a fair manner, and he’s done so in a respectable manner. So having Dave Paskett back to assist the City of Riverton has been a joy.”
Butterfield presented Paskett with a key to the city and a Pendleton blanket during last week’s meeting in honor of his service.
“As city administrator, I have the opportunity to look for and see where talent is in our organization,” Butterfield said. “In doing that … I’m looking for people that are technically sound at the position they perform. They know how to provide the service they’re hired to do, so they’re knowledgeable. They also have character – they have the ability to tell the truth and to act honorably, even when no one is watching. I also look for people that have the backbone to make hard decisions, even when scrutiny comes thereafter, and to do so with grace and dignity. All these things Dave Paskett has exhibited through the years.”
The city has since hired Gary Michaud as its new Community Development Director, but Butterfield said “we will be able to receive service from Dave Paskett from time to time as we’re working through the transition.”
