UPDATE: The LPD call log issued on January 14 has disclosed the identities of those arrested and detailed the complete charges.
Kenneth Sungoeslow III (20, South Pass) was arrested for Reckless Endangering, fighting, MIP (Minor in Possession) and Carrying a Gun in a Bar. Lonnie Stewart (24, Lander) was arrested for Reckless Endangering and Fighting.
(Lander, WY) – Two subjects were arrested late Saturday night/early Sunday morning (January 11/12), in relation to an incident involving a gun that was brandished at a Lander area bar, according to Lander Police Chief Scott Peters
The Fremont County Sheriff’s Office (FCSO) call log issued on January 13 states that the reporting party advised of “a man in the bar with a gun.” The party informed dispatch that “everyone is scattering” while screams could be heard in the background, before telling everyone to get out. The call was made around 1:54 AM.
Witness accounts described the scene as chaotic when it became known a gun was brandished openly inside the bar, with some patrons hiding in the restaurant portion of the establishment while others ran for the exit.
While some of those on-scene said they heard gunshots, Chief Peters later informed County 10 that no shots were fired based on their investigation, but the gun was cocked at one point during the altercation once it moved outside.
Chief Peters reported that there were two main subjects involved in the incident, one of whom was underage (20 years old).
The underage subject pulled out a gun inside the bar for unclear reasons, at which point the second individual took it from him, and the two ended up outside.
Once they got outside, another subject approached the two men “wanting to fight,” Chief Peters continued to explain, when the individual who took the gun from the underage man “racked (cocked) the gun.”
“Nobody shot anything, and both of them were arrested on the property,” Chief Peters shared.
Scanner traffic from that night indicates there was a short foot pursuit for a subject around the time of the incident.
While the identities of the two arrested were not shared at the time, Chief Peters told County 10 that the underage subject was arrested for MIP (minor in possession) and reckless endangering for bringing a gun into a liquor establishment.
The second, of-age individual was arrested for reckless endangering for racking the gun.
The weekend call log for the Lander Police Department has not been released as of this writing, but County 10 will add the identities of those arrested once that information is obtained.
