(Lander, WY) – As the community and number of visitors continue to grow, ensuring the safety of all road users is more important than ever. That’s why Wyoming Pathways is excited to spotlight Lander’s freshly painted sharrows—shared lane markings designed to enhance road safety for cyclists and drivers.
What are sharrows?
Sharrows, short for shared lane markings, are symbols painted on the roadway to indicate that cyclists and motorists should share the lane responsibly. Unlike dedicated bike lanes, sharrows serve as a visual reminder to both parties to respect each other’s space and navigate the streets safely.
Why sharrows matter
Sharrows are strategically placed along designated routes throughout the Lander community, identified as preferred routes for cyclists. These markings help:
- Promote awareness and mutual respect between drivers and cyclists.
- Highlight the recommended positioning of cyclists within the lane to enhance visibility and reduce accidents.
- Encourage drivers to give cyclists adequate space and avoid unnecessary hazards.
Newly painted sharrows in Lander
The City of Lander, Wyoming Pathways, Wind River Inter-Tribal Department of Transportation, and our dedicated community volunteers have been hard at work painting sharrows around Lander. These newly painted sharrows are on Fremont, Garfield, Jefferson, Amoretti (West section), Smith (North section), Academic Way, 2nd Street, North 8th Street, and 9th Street.
