Western Heritage Lutheran Academy (WHLA) is a small, private, 6-12 Christian school in Riverton, WY. They believe in hands-on and personable learning.
In late 2024, WHLA Middle School students took part in a science fair. They worked hard for most of the quarter preparing, conducting experiments, and putting together their boards. Throughout this process, they learned the scientific method, practiced public speaking and were able to be creative. They presented their project in front of three judges.
The students had projects that ranged from melting ice/expansion to building a model car to crashing a car to keep an egg safe. They were able to choose their own experiment, tailored to their interests. Being able to choose helped each student be invested in their project.
There were eight students in total who participated. The first place winner was Marguerite Hill with her project being “One, Two, Freeze, Liquid Expansion. The second place winner was Laela Hanger with a project being “Uh Oh, Oil Spills.” The third Place winner was Addalyn Clark “A Hot Yeast Experiment.”
Back at school now, the students at WHLA are continuing with hands-on, small group learning including cartography, rhetoric, logic, and much more. The High School students are learning the Socratic Method and participating in small group discussions about numerous topics.
